Trivia

  • The WWE Championship has changed hands 11 times at Survivor Series (Including the infamous Montreal Screwjob in 1997). The most recent title change came at the 2015 Survivor Series when Sheamus defeated Roman Reigns after cashing in his Money In the Bank contract to win the title, which followed Reigns winning a tournament to win the previously vacated title. With this, Sheamus became the first superstar to cash-in the MITB contract at Survivor Series.
  • The Big Show is the only superstar to win the WWE Championship at more than one Survivor Series, doing so in 1999 and 2002, respectively.
  • It was at Survivor Series 1990 when The Undertaker made his debut with WWE as a member of Ted DiBiasie Sr.’s Million Dollar Team (which also consisted of Greg Valentine & The Honky Tonk Man, a.k.a. Rhythm and Blues). The opposing team of the traditional Survivor Series match in which Undertaker debuted consisted of Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Koko B. Ware and Dusty Rhodes. All of those men (except Neidhart) are in the WWE Hall of Fame. A year later at Survivor Series, The Undertaker defeated Hulk Hogan to win his first WWE title and the rest, as they say, is history. All told: The Undertaker has a 13-5 record at Survivor Series. His most recent appearance at Survivor Series was in 2015 when he and Kane defeated the Wyatt Family (Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper).
  • In addition to Undertaker, other notable superstar debuts at Survivor Series include The Rock in 1996, Kurt Angle in 1999, Sting in 2014, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in 2012. Like The Undertaker, Rock’s debut was also as part of a Survivor Series tag match with his team comprised of Marc Mero, Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Barry Windham. The opposing team, meanwhile, consisted of Crush (a.k.a. Brian Adams), Jerry Lawler, Triple H (under the guise of Hunter Hearst Helmsley) and Goldust.
  • In addition to Rock, Undertaker, Sting, Rollins, Reigns, Ambrose and Angle’s debuts, Kane, CM Punk,  Sheamus and Tyler Breeze also competed in their first PPV matches at Survivor Series, in 1997, 2006, 2009 and 2015, respectively.
  • The Undertaker’s 13 wins at Survivor Series are the most by any wrestler at the event.
  • From 1992-2014, every Survivor Series PPV  featured at least one of The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, John Cena, Steve Austin, Bret Hart, The Rock, Big Show, Booker T, Randy Orton,  Kane, Chris Jericho or Batista in the main event.
  • The 1998 Survivor Series card featured a total of 18 matches (including four pre-show matches), more than any other Survivor Series PPV.
  • Randy Orton (2003-2005) & The Ultimate Warrior (1988-1990) are the only superstars to be the Sole Survivor of their respective teams 3 years in a row.
  • Shawn Michaels and Triple H have main evented the most Survivor Series PPV’s with 7. John Cena has been in the second most Survivor Series main events with 6, followed by Big Show and Randy Orton with 5, The Undertaker, Kane, Hulk Hogan, Chris Jericho, Dave Batista and The Rock with 4.
  • Only three in Survivor Series history has there not been at least one traditional Survivor Series tag team match: 1998, 2002, and 2022. However, those events did play into the theme of “survival.” The 1998 event featured the “Deadly Games” elimination tournament for the vacant WWE Title while the 2002 and 2022 events saw the debut of the Elimination Chamber and WarGames, respectively.
  • In addition to the Elimination Chamber match, The Casket Match and the Ambulance Match also debuted at Survivor Series in 1992 and 2003, respectively.
  • The 2019 Survivor Series marked the first time since 2015 a WWE Championship match took place at the event.
  • Triple H, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Chris Jericho, CM Punk, The Rock and Batista are the only superstars to compete in World Championship matches at back-to-back Survivor Series: Triple H in 2002 & 2003; Michaels in 1996 & 1997; Cena in 2008 & 2009; Batista in 2006 & 2007; Rock in 1998 & 1999; Punk in 2011 & 2012; Jericho in 2008 & 2009.
  • 11 superstars who appeared on the 1995 Survivor Series card are now deceased. These are: both members of Public Enemy (Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge), Chris Candido, Rad Radford (a.k.a. Louie Spicolli), Bertha Faye, Bam Bam Bigelow, Paul Bearer, King Mabel (a.k.a Viscera), The British Bulldog, Owen Hart and Yokozuna. Additionally, 12 of the superstars who appeared on that card are now in the WWE Hall of Fame. These are: Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Yokozuna, Scott Hall, Jerry Lawler, Alundra Blayze, Paul Bearer, Rikishi, Ted DiBiasie Sr. and Sunny.
  • The Batista vs. Rey Mysterio match at the 2009 Survivor Series marked the only time that a match at Survivor Series ended via Ref Stoppage.
  • 2016 marked the first time since 2000 that a non-championship singles match headlined Survivor Series.
  • Since debuting in 2002, there has not been a second Elimination Chamber match at Survivor Series.
  • 2016 marked the fifth time that Randy Orton was one of the sole survivors of his traditional Survivor Series team that was on the winning side.
  • The earliest date that Survivor has taken place was on November 9 for the 1997 Survivor Series. Conversely, the latest date that Survivor Series has taken place was on November 27 for the 1991 and 2005 Survivor Series events.
  • Three Casket Matches have taken place at Survivor Series. The Undertaker competed in all three and was victorious each time.
  • Edge competed in four traditional Survivor Series elimination matches and was on the losing team in all four (1999, 2000, 2004 and 2006).
  • In addition to The Undertaker and The Big Show, Sycho Sid, and The Rock also captured their first WWE Championships at Survivor Series.
  • The 2007 Survivor Series marked the only time that a Hell In A Cell match took place at the event.
  • The Bob Backlund vs. Bret Hart WWE Championship at the 1994 Survivor Series marked the only time that a submission match has taken place at Survivor Series.
  • WWE Hall of Famer Lita has the most losses (5) of any female superstar to appear at Survivor Series without ever winning at the event.  In fact, all of Lita’s matches at Survivor Series were Women’s Championship matches (2000-2001, 2003-2004, 2006).
  • The Intercontinental Championship has not changed hands at Survivor Series since 2001 and has only been defended four times since, with the champion retaining each time: 2004, 2010, 2013 and 2016, respectively. This year will mark just the fifth IC title defense over this span and first since 2016.
  • This will be Cody Rhodes’ first main card match at Survivor Series since 2014.
  • This will be the second year in a row in which Sami Zayn and Jey Uso will be teammates in the same WarGames match. Coincidentally, both were on the heel team, along with Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, and Jimmy Uso, at last year’s Survivor Series while they will be on the babyface team this time around.
  • Likewise, this will be the second straight year that Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch will be on the same team in a WarGames match. Coincidentally, Lynch and Belair teamed with Asuka at last year’s Survivor Series and she will now be on the opposing team this time around.
  • This will be Randy Orton’s first Pay-Per-View match since Backlash 2022, which was over 18 months ago.
